Well here we are, government non-essential services shutdown with Obama claiming it is all the Tea Partys fault. Soon there will be a debt limit showdown to add to it all. While the Tea Party initiated the problem the fault can be spread around regardless of Obama rhetoric and constant campaign speeches.
Being a Statesman is a big part of being president. Obama keeps using the argument that everybody should agree with all his policies because he was elected again however what he doesn't seem to understand is that he was elected as president and not dictator. If he wanted absolute control he should of ran for office in some other country where if you win you actually do have absolute control. In the United States president is only one of the three branches of government.
So if he decides to try his hand at being a Statesman what obstacles are there for him to overcome?
1. He keeps saying nothing can be added to the bills. This is hardly an act of compromise so it essentially ends all conversations. Now in the act of compromise the House has offered a new bill which just delay ObamaCare for one year much like the delay Obama himself grant his supporters but it would extend to people who didn't vote for him also. Obama says its dead on arrival. Same with saving some groups from the shutdown by giving them exemptions. Obama wants the people who didn't vote for him to feel some pain in the hopes that they will elect democrats next time.
2. The people he needs to convince are the Tea Party which are the same people the IRS targetted for increased scrutiny over their liberal counter parts. The Obama administration is still stonewalling the investigation. Not a good situation for any type of compromise.
3. The DNC would prefer for all kind of chaos to ensue so they will have some talking points in the next elections. They can't get chaos from compromise. Obama puts representing the DNC ahead of representing the country as a whole.
However Obama has never been a statesman so there is no reason for anybody to believe he will start to even try to be. Even when he was in Congress he had a tendency to vote 'Present' so he didn't have to go on record on any issues that may of hurt his planning for running for President. He himself voted against an increased debt limit when he was in Congress. I guess it is alright for him but not for anybody else to do that.
So that's American politics at its finest, a president who only negotiates with dictators and will purposely cause chaos in the country to further the DNC agenda.
